Externally advertised placements

The placements below have been arranged by other DTPs or external organisations. They have been publicised widely and are open to students beyond the NWSSDTP.

To apply, students should follow the instructions in the relevant role details, as the first step. Then, if successful:

  • Sept 2024+ students will need to inform the NWSSDTP Placement Coordinator (ripps@liverpool.ac.uk) who will request some further details about the placement arrangements.
  • Pre-Sept 2024 students will need to apply for additional funding, and a funded studentship extension, following internship guidance.

Research Assistantships Internship Scheme

London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISSDTP)

  • Various Research Assistantships available via LISSDTP
  • Most require some in person attendance at a London university. Check individual posts for details.

Kew Gardens

Various placements for PhD students to learn from experts and make real contributions to work at Kew Gardens in London or Wakehurst in Sussex.

  • Spotlight placement 1: Making room to grow: a data-driven approach to deaccessioning
  • Spotlight placement 2: Model COP: support 14–18-year-olds debate climate and biodiversity issues
  • Deadline: for placements starting Sept 2026, apply by 31 July (quarterly application window)
  • As most placements involve some work in London or Sussex, RiPPS students should consider funding limits before applying.
