The North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP) is trialling a new Research Assistant Placement scheme for NWSSDTP students. A series of five projects have been proposed by academic members of staff from across the consortium, for which we are now recruiting postgraduate researchers.
The Research Assistant Placement Scheme is an opportunity for students to understand how their existing knowledge and skills can be applied in a range of settings while also developing wider core skills, essential for academic and non-academic careers.
Each recruited student will receive a 3-month funded extension to their NWSSDTP studentship in recognition of the time spent away from their PhD on the project. Additional funding may be available to support additional costs (e.g. travel within the UK) for the student undertaking the project, depending on the nature of the RA work being undertaken.
The two projects currently available are as follows:
- Towards the creation of a new research instrument for the recognition of linguistic features of spontaneous conversation by second language users of English
- Climate journalists in Africa: Issue perceptions and challenges
All projects are open to any NWSSDTP-funded postgraduate researchers in the PhD stage of their studentship, who have more than three months left on their studentships. Applications are welcome from students on any pathway or institution. Each project gives an indication of the subject area or skill sets that might be best suited to the project, but interested students are still encouraged to apply even if they do not fit those specifics. You do not need to apply to projects only based at your home institution. Your supervisor will need to sign the Expression of Interest form to confirm that they are happy for you to undertake this project if successful.
If you are interested in undertaking one of these projects, please complete the Expression of Interest below and submit to nwssdtp@liverpool.ac.uk by 5pm on the 22nd February 2023.
